people feel they are not handouts and also it helps them to keep
programs going.
The

"Education for Ministry - Mentor Training"
EFM Mentor Training
will take place from March 8th to 10th
at Montreal Diocesan Theological College, 3475 University, Montreal.
(From Thursday evening, all day Friday, and Saturday from 9 am to 12
noon)http://layeducation.org/efm.htm
Education for Ministryis
for laity who wish to deepen their knowledge of the Christian faith and
reflect on their Christian calling with others in a small group
setting. EFM is a four
year program, although we sign up for one year at a time. In year one
we study the Hebrew Scriptures; year 2 The Christian Testament; year 3
Church History; year 4 Theological Choices.
An EFM seminar group
meets weekly from September to May. The group meets at the time and location that is convenient for them. There is atrained mentor(s) for each group. The mentor's role is to
facilitate the group process, not to be the one with "all the answers".
The students are responsible for their own study and learning.
When we gather each week,
we begin with worship, and then engage in Theological Reflection
(connecting our everyday life to what we believe), and then discuss the
week's readings together. Students who take EFM find they can better
articulate their faith in both words and in action.
Are you interested in becoming a certified EFM Mentor?
Consider this training.
Pleasecontact
Tim Smart for further information or call the Church of the Resurrection 514-697-1910.
Space is limited to 8 persons for this Mentor Training Session.

Pilgrimage to Assisi, Florence and Rome - May 16th to 25th, 2012
A
Pilgrimage is a journey to a particular place with spiritual
significance. The Parish of St. James the Apostle in Montreal will be
building on our
Lenten study, looking at 'A Rule of Life,' with a pilgrimage to Italy
where we will visit Florence, Assisi, and Rome – home to many religious
communities and sites of early Christian communities.
Consider joining us on this pilgrimage, enjoy this opportunity to build
community, visit Italy, experience Italian culture & cuisine and
deepen your post-Lenten experience with an opportunity to pray, be still
and worship in the places where early Christianity
blossomed and Rules of Life were created.
The cost would be approximately CAD $3,350 and includes flights,
accommodations, breakfast and dinner, minibus & driver, and tour
guides.
Flights are on British Airways via London. We will be traveling as a
small group and will enjoy the ability of traveling at our own pace.
We will be leaving Montreal on Wednesday, May 16th and returning on Friday, May 25th. Note that this period of time includes the Victoria Day/Fête des Patriotes weekend.
For information on this wonderful trip and to reserve your seat, contact:

Partners in Mission
is calling for Diocesan Youth Ambassadors:
Young people, 15 to 22, are invited to apply for a program of
preparation for a variety of experiences as representatives
from the Diocese of Montreal. The candidates will be invited to
participate in training sessions, fundraising activities and travel.
The Diocese of Montreal is in partnership with one Canadian diocese, the
Anglican Parishes of the Central Interior (APCI) in British Columbia,
and with one overseas partner, Masasi, in Tanzania. The Anglican Church
of Canada has also been in Full Communion
with the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Canada for ten years, and
partnership with Lutheran parishes is also offering opportunities for
shared mission and fellowship. PWRDF is seeking youth leaders as part of
their 50th anniversary project. In addition, a
variety of opportunities are available to interested young people to
share faith experiences with youth from every corner of our country.
The Partners in Mission Committee, in collaboration with PWRDF, would
like to prepare and support a group of interested youth to be
ambassadors from our Diocese of Montreal, young people who would look
forward to travelling, hosting, and being leaders.
An application form is available from the Office, Church of the Resurrection.
Press Communiqué – for release january 2, 2012
concerning Canada’s Stewardship of the Environment
The Anglican Diocese of Montreal is concerned
about Canada’s reactions to the issues covered by the 17th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate
Change in
Durban, South Africa. During that conference, the Environmental
Minister, the Hon. Peter Kent withdrew Canada from the Kyoto Protocol.
This protocol, signed
in December 1997, provided a set of legally binding emission targets
for developed countries.
Archbishop
Fred Hiltz, the Primate of the Anglican Church of Canada (the national
pastoral leader of the 2,035,500 Canadians who identified themselves
as Anglican in the 2001 census) in his statement “A call to action for the love of creation” on December 6 stated “Those
of us watching from afar echo the voices of delegates who are
expressing concern that not enough action is being taken by developed
countries. We believe we show our respect for God's creation by working
for a climate treaty that is morally and legally binding.
Such a treaty would take us some distance toward realizing the
Millennium Development Goal (#7) of "ensuring environmental
sustainability."
We in the Diocese of Montreal share these concerns.
According
to the Conference Board of Canada (July 2011), Canada is one of the
world’s largest per capita greenhouse gas emitters; in order of
ascending emitters,
Canada ranks 15th out of 17 countries in the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) on GHG emissions per capita.
During
the past 20 years, emissions in Canada of carbon dioxide have increased
by 20% - this is not good stewardship of our resources.
We acknowledge that the Government has the right to manage Canada's natural resources as it deems appropriate
and to take us out of the Kyoto Protocol. However, we also feel thatthe government has a responsibility to manage those resources carefully and wisely.
As
the Government of Canada has chosen to withdraw from the Kyoto
Protocol, we believe it now has the responsibility to issue its own
clear and binding
protocol that will be equally or more effective in reaching the goals
for the reduction of emissions deemed necessary by the international
community. This should include timelines for implementation that are
based on technical feasibility and not expediency
of special interest groups.
We call upon our Government to exercise thisresponsibility to be good stewards of the environment by
shouldering our share of responsibility for climate change mitigation
and adaptation. Canada should be setting an example instead of dragging
its feet.
For
more information, please contact Raymond Noël, Chairman of the
Stewardship of the Environment Committee of the Diocese at (514)
697-7636 or by e-mail at newcons@sympatico.ca.

Dear Sir:
The stand that your government has taken at the
17th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change
in
Durban, South Africa indicates that it is being a poor steward of the
environment. We recognize that you have the right to act as you did in
removing
us from the Kyoto Protocol; however, we feel strongly that you have the
responsibility to manage our resources wisely to the benefit of all
Canadians, present and future.
I
strongly support the sentiments expressed in the attached communiqué
from the Anglican Diocese of Montreal on this issue. In terms
of stewardship of our environment, please begin the New Year with a
strong commitment to a transparent policy to reduce significantly and
quickly our greenhouse gas emissions.
We are stewards of the resources in our land. We should treat them as a legacy to our children.
